Report on the performance of H&F MP3

1. Introduction
Nowadays, the competition of MP3 players market becomes increasingly intensive, especially with the emergence of iPhone 4 or an Android mobile phone which contain the functions of a music player. A recent market survey has been conducted by M&D Market Research Company which showed that our performance, comparing to iGadget, is relatively unsatisfactory.

With the above situation in mind, this report aims at examining the survey results and discuss ways to improve our performance. This report will first introduce the overall performance of the H&F MP3. Then the findings of the design, functions, headphone quality and the market share will be discussed separately. After the there will be a conclusion and followed with some recommendations with regard to the problems.

2. Findings
2.1 Overview
According to attachment 1, just over half of the interviewees are satisfied with our overall performance while about two-thirds of them are satisfied with iGadget MP3 player. In the survey, there are five aspects of H&F and iGadget MP3 players being examined which related to the degree of satisfaction of users. For the aspects of sound quality and battery life, the satisfaction of our product is higher than iGadget MP3 player. However, there are three aspects which cannot reach the expectation of the users. They are design, functions and headphone quality. Meanwhile, the market share of our product keeps decreasing in recent months which is also one of our concerns.

2.2 Design
Under half of the respondents were satisfied with the design. It appears that the limited choice of colour is unattractive to our customers while iGadget provides numerous choices of colour to them. The implication of this is that few potential customers will choose our products.

2.3 Functions
Less than two-fifths of the users were pleased with the functions. The reason for this is that they need to install software to transfer music files. This result in inconvenience for the users which discouraging them from buying and using our MP3 players.

2.4 Headphone Quality
Just about a third of the interviewees were satisfied with the headphone quality. It seems that there is a problem with the manufacturing process. The ineffective quality control leads to less satisfactory headphone quality. A result of this is that it would negatively affect the reputation and goodwill of our products.

2.5 Market Share
According to attachment 2, the market share of H&F and iGadget MP3 players from March 2010 to February 2011are presented. The market share of H&F MP3 players is fluctuated between March 2010 and August 2010. It then declined gradually since September 2010. The market share of iGadget also dropped since September 2010, however, it started to climbed after December 2010. With reference to the market share of the two MP3 players, it seems our market share is comparatively low.

It is believed that the three problems mentioned above are the major causes of the low market share. In addition, hiring old TV star, Mr Felix Chan, as our celebrity spokesperson appears to be the unattractive to our current market segments.

3. Conclusion
The findings clearly indicate the main aspects of satisfaction for the interviewees are the old-fashioned design, complicated functions and poor headphone quality. The result of the survey also indicate quite clearly that low market share is one of the concerns regarding the performance of our MP3 players. It can be concluded that in order to improve our performance, a number of measures should be taken to enhance the reputation of our products.

4. Recommendations

After considering the report, the following recommendations are made:

4.1 Design
Given that the design of our MP3 player is outdated, it is recommended that we should improve the design by providing more choices of colour.

4.2 Functions
As a result of the confusing function, it is suggested that the software program should be updated which allows users to use the MP3 player easily.

4.3 Headphone Quality
Our findings have suggested that the poor headphone quality is due to the ineffective quality control system. In the light of this, it is recommended that a better quality control system should be implemented.

4.4 Market Share
Besides improving the above three elements, it appears that changing the spokesperson of our MP3 players may help to boost the market share. We propose to hire a young and energetic girl, Miss Gem Tang, to be our representative.
